Make sure that you don’t put any busy sites on their shared hosting because they’ll suspend your account before giving you a warning and it’ll take a few hours to get it back online. Other than that hostgator are one of the best.

I love hostgator, but the only problem I have with them is they don’t like to give you shell access. I had to fax a copy of my drivers license and it never got setup right. Other than that a great hosting company.

    Nice Tutorial Court.

Duane – I always recommend getting a reseller account for this reason. It all comes down to system resources.

B.Durant – HostGator did away with the whole thing with ID for shell access. You should be able to get it upon request now.

Host Gator Rocks! There is no better hosting service for customer service, almost no down time and user-friendliness!

Yes, Hostgator is good, but there are also some other very good hosting services. The hype around Hostgator has been artificially created by you-know-who and you-know-why.

Has anyone ever checked out DreamHost? I hear everyone talk about Host Gator, but DreamHost increases your bandwidth and hard drive space every week for life. Is there a reason to go with Host Gator over DreamHost or any other service?

Ive been with dreamhost for over 6 months and I like them I recently moved to hostgator and moving was a nightmare – though they helped: because both hosts have their own inflexible rules for nameing sqldatabases – if you just a simple site with no DB there wouldnt be a problem

I moved to HG reseller to avoid geting shut down in the (unlikely) even that I get some traffic to any of my sites. I hate cpanel – its slow and nasty interface which forever has been having to login in as another user to do anything useful. I miss terminal access but see above I can get it on request (why the hell should I have to request??)

I only moved because I understood that cpanel was standard and that the stats package was better (it is )

In retrospect – I should have waited until one of my sites got some traffic : $25/month is large chunk of my online income at the moment

What will we be using for email with this blog, will we set that up with hostgator once we are active, or something else?

    Reply
    • Court edit

Barbara at this point it doesn’t really matter what we use for email. You can use Host Gator to create an email address that contains your domain, or you can use gmail or any other free email.

Andrew – Dreamhost sucks. Not too long ago they made some serious billing mistakes to all their customers accounts and ended up taking out hundreds of dollars from peoples accounts. Dreamhost are very irresponsible and seem to always be goofing up. I say stay away.

Mike – Mike you aren’t referring to the fact that I previously worked there are you?

Does anyone else have anything to say about DreamHost? I haven’t experienced any billing problems yet, so I’m wondering if there are any technical advantages of going with Host Gator over DreamHost?

Does anyone know if one runs smoother, more user friendly, better interface?

Andrew I use and trust Host Gator. They have been very helpful if I ever needed anything and have been very reliable. I haven’t tried DreamHost and therefore can’t recommend them.

When I did research on web hosts my decision came down to hostgator or bluehost. I chose hostgator. I read quite a few bad reviews on dreamhost and didn’t want future troubles, Hostgator is working out great so far.

Hostgator – wonderful site Court. Didn’t know about it but serivces rock. Unfortunately (for you) prouddomains did not take my order. It could never accept a click on “purchase” after my domainname selection, but gave me the error

“Your domain names are already in your cart or your session has expired following 20 minutes of inactivity.”

and no, my cart was empty.

Denise honestly Host Gator has worked out great for me and I run some pretty large sites. They have been very helpful and have gone out of their way to solve a few errors for me when it wasn’t their fault. I can HIGHLY recommend them as a web host.

    Mr. Tuttle,
I am just getting in to creating a web page. If knowledge were power (which it is) I would be considered very weak! I obviously have no web page(s) at the moment but wish very much (after viewing your web pages and sites (very good). Your turorial on “Keyword-Crash-Course” (ebook) is truly excellent. I unfortunately am a very slow learner. Once I got it, I got it!. That’s why I would like to ask you a favor. If you will email me I will ask it there and not here on your blogg. thanks Court. Hope to hear from you soon. thanks again

The crux of your writing whilst appearing agreeable in the beginning, did not really work perfectly with me after some time. Someplace within the paragraphs you managed to make me a believer unfortunately only for a short while. I nevertheless have a problem with your jumps in assumptions and you would do nicely to help fill in those breaks. If you can accomplish that, I could surely end up being fascinated.

It’s a good quality summary that you have written. There are a number of points however which I believe would do better if you went into a little bit more detail than you have done. just my opinion, and I’m not trying to be critical at all. If you do follow this up then I would be interested. Thanks.

I have realized some considerations through your blog post. One other thing I would like to state is that there are many games out there designed particularly for preschool age little ones. They include things like pattern recognition, colors, family pets, and forms. These usually focus on familiarization instead of memorization. This makes little children occupied without having the experience like they are learning. Thanks
